Lydia Liebman is a New York City-based music industry professional with experience as a publicist, educator, radio host, promoter, journalist and musician. She is the founder and president of Lydia Liebman Promotions, a leading PR agency based in New York City.
While she grew up with jazz, she got her professional start while a student at Emerson College and Berklee College of Music on radio station WECB. There, she founded a successful radio program, Reeds & Deeds II, that aired for four years and featured interviews with the likes of Pat Metheny, Gregory Porter, Kurt Elling, and Jason Moran, among many others. She apprenticed with both Mark Ruffin and Simon Rentner at Sirius XM’s Real Jazz and WBGO’s The Checkout respectively. In 2016, Liebman guest hosted several episodes of the Checkout in support of that years’ National Endowment for the Arts ceremony and she interviewed Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, Gary Burton and Wendy Oxenhorn. Her experience in radio greatly informs her approach to public relations and promotion.
Liebman began LLP in her dorm room at Emerson College in Boston. Originally geared toward up and coming jazz musicians in the area, Liebman started by promoting local shows at venues such as Scullers Jazz Club and Wally’s Jazz Café. One of her first accounts was the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, under the artistic direction of Danilo Perez. Since then, LLP has grown to become one of the most active and sough after PR firms in jazz today. To date, Lydia has spearheaded over 500 new release campaigns including, and has worked with countless artists representing all spectrums of jazz. Her clients have garnered 29 GRAMMY nominations and 7 wins; past and present clients include Lakecia Benjamin, Catherine Russell, Brandee Younger, Samara Joy, Kenny Barron, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Brian Lynch, Matt Ulery, Andy Milne, and many more. She has promoted concerts at storied venues like Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, The Kennedy Center and Berklee Performance Center, along with most major jazz clubs in the United States.
For 8 years, Liebman was a reporter and senior assistant editor for Education Update, a NY-based education trade publication. Liebman's byline appears on over 100 articles, some of which were interview features with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Ann and Andrew Tisch, Patrick Kennedy, and various university presidents, scientific leaders and award-winning leaders in education.
Liebman regularly lectures about PR and other music industry-related topics and is often invited to join panel discussions and seminars. She has presented at several higher ed institutions including The Royal Academy of Music in London, Berklee College of Music, USC, and others. In 2021, she was included on the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the music category. In 2022, she joined the faculty of the Roc Nation School of Music at Long Island University.
