Chief Adjuah
Chief Adjuah, formerly known as Christian Scott, has embodied the cultural process of researching and rediscovering personal history. His journey began with Stretch Music, an album that digs into the formation of music amid cultural stereotypes. With each subsequent album, Adjuah steadily reclaims his musical and social identity, reconnecting with the past and moving towards a future of true representation. Along the way, his listeners have grown, learning from his deep translation of the true heritage of Maroon culture.
While the ‘industry’ questioned and even frowned upon his path (one business comment often heard is ‘He’s not doing himself any favors’), Chief Adjuah persisted in claiming his own representation, and in the process informed us all on the history of Maroon culture in New Orleans and beyond.
‘If I could create a space musically that showed that all of the cultures could potentially occupy the same spaces, then maybe I can heal that rift.’
Third Way is committed to supporting the reinstatement of real stories that have been removed or altered from global consciousness. Recent albums from David Sanchez, Russell Gunn, Obed Calvaire, and more have told these stories through music.
Chief Adjuah is the most prominent and determined voice on this path, and as he plans to bring powerful new projects to the world we are seeking the right donors to advance his message. For full details, schedule a discussion with Third Way founder Louis Marks.
